Join our Summer Reading Program

  • Find great things to read
  • Join library activities to win prizes and enter draws
  • Attend a free summer program

The summer reading program encourages kids to keep reading all summer long. This summer, we invite kids to join the program and explore the natural world at the Library! We purchased new materials to include in our youth collections and created some great library activities, crafts, and games for children to take part in all summer long. Participants will be able to enter their name in a weekly prize draw for every 60 minutes of reading completed and tracked. These prizes were purchased with the generous support of our local Vermilion TD Bank.

To register: Children ages 5 and up can sign up for the program. Registration starts July 2 or any time after. Stop by the library to add your name to the registration list.

You will receive:

1. Reading Log Bookmarks (print your name/phone number clearly!)

Use a reading log bookmark to track your summer reading. Every 60 minutes read = 1 entry into the weekly draw. Library staff draw 5 names each week (Tuesday mornings) and phone the winners. There are 10 prizes always on display to choose from until August 28th - the last day you will be able to choose your prize.

The library will keep track of all draw slips/bookmarks you return to the library. Final prizes will be awarded to the top 3 summer readers, measured by the number of minutes read. The last day to return reading log bookmarks for the final tally is August 28.

2. TD Summer Reading Booklet

Take part in ongoing activities & crafts at the library throughout the summer! Use your booklet to keep track of the stickers staff hand out when you participate in crafts or activities at the library. Every 4 stickers collected = a prize from our prize bin. The maximum number of stickers you can collect is 24 - that's 6 prizes!

3. "I Read 36 Places Outside!" Handout

Take this handout home and challenge yourself to see how many places you can read outside this summer! Don't forget to use a reading log bookmark to track the minutes you read in the great outdoors!
