Event: Guided Autobiography Group

Description

Exploring the meaning of our lives by sharing our stories
A guided autobiography group

Guided autobiography offers an opportunity to explore, by writing, reading and listening to supportive others, where you have been, where you are, and where you are going. Participants in this memoir group will explore a number of themes that have been influential in shaping their lives, in a process based on guidelines developed and described by Dr. James Birren and colleagues. They will be left with many ideas to pursue, and the beginning of a record of their lives.

Dorothy Tovell, our group facilitator, grew up on a farm north of town and went to school in Vermilion. She has lived and worked in Edmonton for most of her life, but now in retirement spends her summers at a cabin on the family farm. She has led a number of guided autobiography groups at Grant MacEwan College, the University of Alberta, a United Church, and in her own home. Last spring she offered a weekend experience at a B&B in Manitoba.
