Our Partners
Vermilion Public Library is a member of the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce. By keeping in touch with the local business community we can showcase our resources in a timely fashion to assist Vermilion citizens.
Vermilion Public Library regularly attends the Interagency meetings hosted by CLASS. This lunch hour meeting is a great place to hear about the fine work of local agencies, schools and service groups.
The Vermilion Public Library is an integral part of the Town of Vermilion, serving as a primary source of educational, cultural, and informational needs. Those who enter our door are met with many resources, programs and accesses to a better life. From the public access computers (CAP-funded) to the extensive catalogue of books, Vermilion citizens can be proud of their library. We are uniquely positioned to serve as a portal to government agencies, town programs and our own brand of help. The library can support you with all of your endeavors.
The Friends of the Vermilion Public Library Society support the library in many ways:
- Raising funds to donate to specific library projects;
- Assisting the library through advocacy and promotion; and
- Volunteer work at the library.
Due to their fundraising efforts, the FRIENDS have purchased our beautiful circulation desk, a lovely display cabinet, another magazine shelving unit, four leather chairs, and, together with the generous contributions of The Community Closet Society, library shelving. (These funds were matched by the provincial Community Initiatives Program. To date, FRIENDS has received over $6,000 for this library enhancement project!)
Are you thinking of joining the “FRIENDS” organization? They meet four times per year at the library and receive a Vermilion Public Library bag and other benefits. Thinking of donating? Receipts for income tax credit are available for donations to FRIENDS. Two ways you can support them are by purchasing Frozen U-Bake croissants ($5 per dozen) or Vermilion Public Library Book Bags ($15). Both are available at the library.
Vermilion Public Library was established by the Frog Lake Chapter of IODE in February of 1931 with 113 books. In 1932 the Vermilion Public Library was officially founded. Many years later the IODE turned the library over to the Town of Vermilion. From those modest beginnings the IODE has continued to be a loyal supporter of Vermilion Public Library. That is a loyalty that we cherish. Our local IODE chapter promotes literacy with book and money donations to the local libraries. They also assist families in need and honor new Canadians with an annual luncheon. Recently our local IODE was given special recognition for their continued involvement with VPL.
