The Vermilion Public Library would like to promote early literacy through a new program we are calling “Books for Kids”.

We are modeling this program after our well-received “Books for Babies” program, which is targeted towards 18 month old children. In “Books for Kids”,  each kindergarten-aged child going to either St. Jerome’s school or Vermilion Elementary School will receive a colourful tote bag, one book, and a gift certificate for a free juvenile membership to our library.

The free membership is a very important part of the kit, as it is an incentive to become a member of the library. It is our hope that this translates into a lifetime of library use.

This includes a partnership with the public health nurses from Alberta Health Services to distribute the kits. We have also received help in our book selection from a local Speech Therapist, and funding through Town of Vermilion FCSS. THANK YOU to all of our partners in this project!
